The Areca palm (Dypsis lutescens) is a popular, bushy houseplant known for its feathery fronds and ability to improve indoor air
quality by filtering toxins like formaldehyde and benzene. Also called the golden cane or butterfly palm, it thrives in bright, indirect sunlight and
requires high humidity, well-drained soil, and consistent moisture, though it can tolerate short dry spells. It's a relatively low-maintenance, petsafe plant that adds a tropical feel to any space.

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright, indirect sunlight; avoid direct sun which can scorch leaves.
  • Water: Keep soil moist but not soggy; water when the top inch is dry. Ensure good drainage.
  • Humidity: Prefers high humidity (50-60%). Use a humidifier, mist regularly, or place a water tray nearby, especially in dry indoor air.
  • Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures (65-75°F / 18-24°C) and dislikes drafts from vents or doors.
  • Soil: Well-draining potting mix, possibly amended with perlite or sand.
  • Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the growing season (spring/summer) with a palm fertilizer; stop in fall/winter.
  • Pruning: Remove only dead or damaged fronds to maintain shape and health.
  • Repotting: Every 2-3 years, in spring, into a pot only slightly larger, as they like to be root-bound.
