Croton Petra
$13.99
The Petra Croton (Codiaeum variegatum 'Petra') is a vibrant tropical evergreen known for its bold, leathery oval leaves brightly variegated with striking veins of red, orange, yellow, and bright pink against a deep green background.
Light and Placement
- Bright Light: Requires 4 to 6 hours of bright, direct-to-indirect sunlight daily (such as a south- or east-facing window) to maintain its fiery leaf colors.
- Dim Light Impact: Low light causes new foliage to emerge a plain, drab green and can lead to leaf drop.
Watering and Soil
- Moisture Balance: Keep the soil evenly moist, watering about once a week when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry.
- Avoid Extremes: Do not let the plant sit in soggy, waterlogged soil (which causes root rot) or suffer prolonged dry spells (which causes sudden leaf drop).
- Soil Mix: Use a loose, nutrient-rich, and fast-draining potting mix amended with perlite.
Temperature and Humidity
- Warmth: Thrives in temperatures between 60°F and 80°F. Protect it from cold drafts, sudden temperature shifts, and temperatures dipping below 55°F.
- Humidity: Prefers high humidity levels (40% to 80%). Boost ambient moisture using a pebble tray, room humidifier, or regular misting.
